Horizon staff proves it is possible to read while having fun

Faculty and staff at Horizon Elementary School in Plymouth know it is possible to do something fun and read a book at the same time.

Several did just that — and took photos to prove it, at the request of Lisa Krzyzaniak, reading specialist at Horizon. She made enlargements of the photos and posted them on a bulletin board with the words “This is how we spent our summer vacation.”

“Let me tell you: When you give that Horizon staff a summer assignment, they really deliver,” Krzyzaniak said. “What makes this project truly fantastic is their photos!”
The photos include:
Sarah Michlig reading at a Brewers game
Janel Eernisse reading with her two beautiful little boys
JoAnne Finley reading to her two dogs
John Langhout reading a dictionary to a stuffed fish
Peggi Gnadt reading “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish” to a live fish
New staff member Amy Kolpin reading "Bad Dog Marley" to her dog
Kelly Flaig sitting on a racecar and reading at her summer job at Road America
Lori Brown reading to her daughter on her daughter's wedding day
Jackie Murphy reading “Click, Clack, Moo, Cows That Type” in the middle of her cow pasture
Sue Laack sitting on a combine, reading a book

“While some of the photos are silly, I hope our project still delivers a strong message about the importance of reading,” Krzyzaniak said.

The project also gives fellow staff members and Horizon students a glimpse into teachers’ summer lives, she said.
