EL Village Board meeting

ELKHART LAKE — Promoter Jeff Grady met with the Village Board Monday for a post-mortem on the Great Midwest Marathon and Endurance Festival held in the village over Memorial Day weekend.

Grady conceded that improvements need to be made in the event, which included running, bicycling and in-line skating events in and around Elkhart Lake and the county.

“It was grand in scope and grand in scale,” the Des Plaines, Ill., promoter, who also stages the annual Elkhart Lake Triathlon event, told the board. “We tried a whole new thing this year and it all boiled down to three R’s — resources, registration and resources.”

While the events drew fewer participants than Grady and his partners had projected, it still brought 400 competitors in the various events to the village over the busy Memorial Day weekend. That, Grady admitted, caused some problems for the village and for the event.
