Resorters’ late rally falls shy
ELKHART LAKE – A fourth-quarter rally fell short as the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters lost to Crivitz, 26-21, in a nonconference football game here Friday night.
The Resorters dropped to 0-2 and the Wolverines improved to 1-1.
Elkhart trailed 26-7 going into the fourth quarter before battling back. Quarterback Kyle Rentmeester threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to split end Taylor Kaboord, followed by Rentmeester’s 10-yard TD run which sliced the deficit to 26-21.
“The kids never gave up. We executed better in the fourth quarter on offense – blocking and everything,” said Resorter head coach Barry Feldmann.
The Wolverines showed good balance on offense with 231 yards rushing and 157 passing. Quarterback Jordan Hardy had four TD passes, including three to Brandon Gross, to ignite the Crivitz offense.
Rentmeester keyed the Resorters’ attack with 277 yards in total offense, including a game-high 155 yards on the ground.
“Kyle read the option well. We did a lot better job of sustaining our blocks. We cut down on drops [passing],” Feldmann said.
“Crivitz was very balanced on offense. Gross is a very good tight end. Crivitz had a good size advantage. I think they’ll do very well this year.”
Linebacker Cody Wilterdink and defensive back Ben Rentmeester had one interception each for Elkhart.
