Johnsonville Rod and Gun Club holds Poultry Party
by Verla Peichl Review Co respondent
JOHNSONVILLE – The Rod and Gun Club recently held their annual Poultry Party at Laack’s Hall, Johnsonville. The event brought in a large number of supporters for not only the good food that is supplied but it’s also become a place for friends, neighbors and relatives to gather and share a day filled with fun and laughter.
One of the newest raffle ideas helped to keep the young prospects interested because kids under age 14 were given free raffle tickets, which made them eligible for a kid’s fishing rod and an “Adventures with Johnny” fishing book. A ticket was drawn every half hour.
The Johnsonville Rod and Gun Club was established in 1919 as a community club supporting conservation and education in Sheboygan County. All of the proceeds raised through the annual Poultry Party/Brat Fry held the Sunday before the Super Bowl go to conservation, and club members in 2012 continue to carry on that tradition of those members in 1919.
The past year was busy for club members. The following is a list of all they have done for the community:
• Supported the Plymouth Food Pantry with 10 cases;
• Donated $300 to the Camo Quilt Project;
• Supports Green Wing Day;
• Supports the Coho Derby in Sheboygan;
• Donated $100 to Share the Spirit, which is a county program for the elderly;
• Supports the Sheboygan County Conservation Association’s Pig Roast at the county marsh;
• Supports the Sheboygan County Conservation Association’s banquet at Range Line Inn, Kohler;
• Supports the Outdoor Skills banquet for Camp Y Koda;
• Provides a Hunter Education Course for safety that is held at Johnsonville; and
• Gave two scholarships for $750 each to Johnathan Kaiser and Courtney Adair, who are attending University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point for natural resources.
The current club officers are John Lederer, president; Jason Kroepline, vice president; Ralph Knuth, secretary; Chuck Strysick, treasurer.
The board of directors are Shelly Pfeil, Roy Kalmerton, Don Feldmann, Dan Fulcer and Ben Meinnert.
Johnsonville Rod and Gun Club meets the first Wednesday of the month at Laack’s Hall, Johnsonville. The dues are $20 a year and the club is hoping that there are some young people who want to join and help the club carry on the tradition, which is held in such honor by the current members and those who have retired from the club.
