ROLA A. KLAHN
Rola A. Klahn, age 74, of Elkhart Lake, Wis., passed away Monday morning, Jan. 30, 2012, as a result of an automobile accident.
She was born Aug. 21, 1937 in Plymouth, Wis., a daughter of Lorraine Moersch Gosse and the late Roland Gosse. Rola attended Elkhart Lake Grade School and graduated from Elkhart Lake High School in 1955.
On Sept. 23, 1955, she married Clifford Klahn in Elkhart Lake. The couple have resided in Elkhart Lake since their marriage. Clifford preceded her in death in April 1991.
She will be remembered for her smiles and friendly hello while working at Westside Pantry in Plymouth for over 20 years, retiring in 2008. She was also a bus driver for Oriole Bus Line.
She was a charter member of Grace Lutheran Church in Elkhart Lake, and currently was a member of Community United Church of Christ in Elkhart Lake.
Rola volunteered her time and talents at the Wade House running the Carriage Museum, and also found time to deliver Meals On Wheels. She served on the Elkhart Lake Village Board for 25 years on many committees. She also served on the Elkhart Lake Library Board and most recently was appointed to the Eastern Shores Library System board of directors.
She enjoyed playing bridge and sheepshead, spending time at her trailer up north near Townsend, and enjoying the company of her three cats: Missy, Max and Cinnamon.
Survivors include one son, Michael (Mary) Klahn of Plymouth; one daughter, Barbara (David) Martiny of Kiel; two grandchildren, Jordan and Jennessa Klahn; two step grandchildren, Jessica (Pedro) Cardones and Alodia (Arthur) Cruz; two step great-grandchildren, Esper Cardones and Evan Cruz; her mother, Lorraine Gosse of New Holstein; two brothers, Roland Gosse of New Holstein and Dennis Gosse of Elkhart Lake; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Radtke of California and Jean Klahn of West Bend, Wis.; two adopted daughters, Tammy Ehrett of Brookfield, Wis., and Kerry Lane of Baraboo, Wis.; and dear friends: Elise Foreman of Elcho, Wis.; Janet Schmitt of Elkhart Lake and Sharon (Edward) Zimmermann of Elkhart Lake. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother and sister-in-law, Leon (Ginger) Gosse; and her brothers- and sister-inlaw, Vernon Klahn, Yvonne Gosse and Stuart Klahn.
Memorial services will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at Community United Church of Christ in Elkhart Lake. The Rev. Michael Safford-Kennedy, pastor of the church, will officiate. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Elkhart Lake.
Friends may call at the church Friday from 4 p.m. until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Rola’s name.
