GOOD TO KNOW: Healthcare reform information/updates available online

by Pat Hafermann

The government has launched a new website: www.healthcare.gov. The purpose of the website is to provide clear and understandable information to the public about how the law affects individuals.

There is a drop-down menu devoted to seniors with the following linked to “Top Five Things to Know”: Improvements Now, Strengthening Medicare, Improving Medicare, I Don’t Have Medicare, and Paying for Long Term Care. There is also a drop-down menu devoted to people living with disabilities.

One interesting feature is the timeline, which is a link in the center near the top of the home page. The link takes you to a timeline bar and you can click on the timeline bar at any point and see what provisions of the new health care reform law go into effect at that point of time.

If you have any additional questions, you may call Pat Hafermann, elderly benefits specialist with the Aging and Disability Resource Center, at (920) 467-4076.
