EL’s Rentmeester ousted in sectional

CEDAR GROVE – Kyle Rentmeester of Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah finished 1-2 at 171 pounds in the Division 3 sectional wrestling tournament here Saturday and fell short of a state berth.

Rentmeester, 33-17 this season, was in a tough weight class. In the first round, he won by a technical fall, 16-1, over Brandon Biskupski of Martin Luther (Greendale).

The Elkhart junior lost in the semifinals by a major decision, 17-4, to Montello’s Dalton Loveland. Loveland was 30-3 coming into the tournament.

The defeat dropped Rentmeester into the consolation semifinals. He was eliminated after being pinned by Johnson Creek’s Zac Pernat in 1:43. Pernat sported a 42-4 mark heading into the meet.

“He [Rentmeester] wrestled well. They [Loveland and Pernat] were strong,” said Elkhart head coach Dan Stephanie.

“He had a pretty good year. Kyle has improved every year and we can build on this [sectional experience].”

Ozaukee won the meet with 86½ points, followed by Random Lake at 79½.
