Passing key for Tigers in league win

RANDOM LAKE – Howards Grove scored two goals early in the second half to down Random Lake, 3- 1, in a girls soccer match here Thursday afternoon.

The Central Lakeshore Conference match was deadlocked, 1-1, at halftime. Schaller’s goal, assisted by Carmen Conrad, gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead. Five minutes later, Morgen booted her goal on an assist by Cassie Marver – making it 3-1.

The Tigers hiked their CLC record to 7-3 (8-4 overall).

Howards went up 1-0 with five minutes remaining in the first half on a goal by Morgen. Shaina Kretchmer was credited with an assist.

The Rams tied the game on a penalty kick from Kristianne Knight.

“The girls played great from start to finish. The effort was excellent and our passing combinations were better than our last game,” said Tiger head coach Eric Worth.

“We moved the ball around well and it created some nice opportunities for us on goal.”

Worth said midfielder Karyssa Gallenberger and Morgen, a forward, played very well.

The Tigers held a huge edge in shots on goal, 18-5. Howards’ goalies were Brittney Wehrmann and Katie Plahmer with three and two saves, respectively.
