Panthers’ Krzyzaniak fires three-hit shutout

PLYMOUTH – Junior Kaitlyn Krzyzaniak of Plymouth spun a three-hitter in blanking Sheboygan Falls, 2-0, in an Eastern Wisconsin Conference softball game here Thursday evening.

Both of Kryzaniak’s shutouts this season have come against Falls. She walked only one and struck out three.

“Kaitlyn threw a great game – getting ahead of hitters and hitting spots all day,” said PHS head coach Gale Grahn.

“The defense played pretty well behind her.”

The Panthers upped their EWC record to 7-3 (8-5 overall). The Falcons dropped to 4-6 in the league (6- 6 overall).

PHS took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Shyanne Heimerl scored on a passed ball. Heimerl had led off with a single, moved to second on Sydney Holdridge’s sacrifice bunt and advanced to third on Sara Thompson’s groundout.

Plymouth added an insurance run in the sixth when Holdridge came home on a wild pitch.

Liz Barthels, who took the loss, also pitched a strong game. Barthels threw a five-hitter and walked none while striking out three.

Neither team had a player with multiple hits.

The PHS junior varsity improved to an EWC-best 11-0 (13-0 overall) with a 3-0 victory. Rachel Romps threw her second straight shutout – striking out nine, walking one and hitting a batter.

Romps also had a team-high two hits, including a double.

“Our defense played excellent,” said PHS coach Paul Kryzaniak.”

Plymouth’s Amy Addy threw out a batter at first base from right field and teammate Hannah Kaiser made an outstanding catch against the fence by third base.
