Plymouth vs New Holstein

PLYMOUTH – Plymouth hung tough with New Holstein for six innings in Tuesday evening’s baseball game, then the roof caved in.

The Huskies erupted for eight runs in the top of the seventh to win going away, 15-4, at Loebe Field. The Panthers slipped to 2-2 in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference (3-4 overall).

New Holstein combined six hits and four walks in the seventh to break the contest open after PHS had cut a 7-1 deficit to 7-4 following Jake Klemme’s three-run homer in the sixth.

“I have to give New Holstein credit. They hit the ball well and took advantage of walks,” said Panther head coach Butch Cain.

The Huskies pounded out 11 hits, led by Cody Thede and Erik Hansen with three each. Jared Schmitz had a team-high four RBIs.

Hansen threw a three-hitter and earned the victory. He allowed three earned runs and three walks while striking out five.

Trevor Thiel and Christian Alexander had one single each to account for Plymouth’s other hits.

PHS scored its other run in the second. Klemme reached second on a two-base, infield error and took third on Eric Nygaard’s sacrifice bunt. Klemme scored on Matt Rhude’s suicide-squeeze bunt.

Ryan Schieble was the losing pitcher. He allowed six runs (three earned) on four hits with two walks and six strikeouts in 3-1/3 innings.
