Accident claims life of Falls man

A two-vehicle accident at the intersection of State 23 and County TT took the life of a 39-year-old Sheboygan Falls man Friday, June 24 in the town of Sheboygan Falls.

The fatal crash occurred when Erik C. Herzog crossed State 23 and County Highway TT at approximately 6 p.m.

The crash took place in front of a Sheboygan County Sheriff's Department sergeant, who was traveling to another call.

According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, Herzog's 1998 Dodge Neon crossed the eastbound lanes about one-tenth of a mile in front of a squad car driven by Sheboygan County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Jason Liermann, who was eastbound on State 23 with the emergency lights and siren on, responding to a domestic disturbance.

Herzog's car drove through the median crossover and into the westbound lanes before being struck in the passenger side by a 1999 Chevy pickup truck.

According to Sheboygan County Coroner David Leffin, Herzog died at the scene of blunt force trauma to the head and chest.

An infant in Herzog's car, restrained in a child safety seat in the back seat, was taken to an area hospital as a precaution.

The driver of the pickup truck, Scott M. Schramm, 45, of Plymouth, was not injured.

Assisting agencies included the Kohler and Sheboygan Falls police departments, town of Sheboygan Falls Fire Department and the Plymouth and Orange Cross ambulance services.
