Maria Berenger, age 76, of Plymouth, passed away Monday evening, Dec. 26, 2011 at the Sharon Richardson Hospice Center, where she had been a patient for two days.

She was born Feb. 24, 1935 in Budapest, Hungary, a daughter of the late Franz and Maria (Werb) Wildanger.

Her family moved to Chicago in 1952. She was married to Walter Osowski. They made their home in Chicago. Maria became a U.S. citizen in 1961. In 1968 she married Robert Berenger. The couple moved to Plymouth and then to Cascade. Maria moved to Texas in 1985 returning to Plymouth this past summer.

Maria had been employed as a bookkeeper at Plymouth Plumbing and Heating from 1969-79.

She was fluent in three languages and enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint, knitting, cooking, baking and sewing for her family. Her family was the center of her life.

Survivors include three daughters, Rosie (Tim) Fischer of Plymouth, Deb (Randy) Niedfeldt of Plymouth and Sandy (Greg) Gallo Berenger of The Colony, Texas; one son, Donny Berenger of Plymouth; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Anna Wildanger and Katie Georg, both of Plymouth.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Ron Berenger; and two grandchildren, Christel Niedfeldt and Mark Fischer.

Funeral services were held Thursday noon, Dec. 29, at the Schneider Funeral Home in Plymouth. Burial took place in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Cascade.
