Rocky Knoll gets $325,000 quality care performance award

Sheboygan County’s Rocky Knoll Health Care Center will receive a financial award for provid- ing excellent quality care, reported County Administrator Payne during his monthly address to the County Board Tuesday.

Based on Rocky Knoll’s performance during the first year of a Nursing Home Value Based Purchasing Demonstration, Sheboygan County recently learned it will receive a performance payment from the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (“CMS”) in the amount of $325,531.

“This is fantastic news and reflects highly on our hardworking and dedicated staff at Rocky Knoll,” said County Administrator Adam Payne.

The Nursing Home Value Based Purchasing Demonstration (“NHVBP”) is a three-year national pilot demonstration designed by CMS to improve the quality of care provided to Medicare benefi- ciaries in nursing homes.

CMS chose 178 nursing homes in three states to participate in the demonstration: Arizona, New York and Wisconsin. Thirty of the 178 facilities were awarded performance payments.

In the study, nursing homes with an overall performance rating in the 80th percentile or above qualify for a performance payment.

County Board Chairman Roger Te Stroete said it is a privilege for Rocky Knoll to have been selected for this financial award. “It’s a great honor for Rocky Knoll to be recognized at the national level as being a facility that provides exceptional quality care to the people who reside there.”

“Nursing homes throughout Wisconsin and the nation are struggling with a declining census and having sufficient revenue to cover costs, Payne said. “We face this challenge at Rocky Knoll as well. I’m very proud of our staff for the excellent care they provide and earning this award.”
