The Flames, who snapped a three-game losing streak, improved to 4-3 in the Northern Division of the Land O’ Lakes Baseball League (7-7 overall). West Bend dropped to 3-5 in the division.

Plymouth tallied four runs in the bottom of the third inning to grab a 4-0 lead. Ryan Wachter rapped a leadoff single and moved _–_ _ to second base on Eric Heidenreiter’s sacrifice bunt. Evan Walsh followed with an RBI double.

Greg Rhude batted next and ripped a triple which drove in Walsh. Mike DuCharme followed with a triple that knocked in Rhude. Dusty Medved then singled in DuCharme to cap off the scoring in the frame.

The Benders cut the deficit to 4-2 in the fourth on a two-run single by Justin Karpinsky.

The Flames tacked on two insurance runs in the eighth. Bennin whacked an RBI double and Walsh brought in a run with a fielder’s choice.

Travis Christenson earned a complete-game win. Christenson allowed two earned runs on nine hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

Plymouth pounded out 14 hits. Leading the Flames’ bats with two hits each were Heidenreiter, DuCharme, Paul Gloede, Bennin and Wachter. Walsh had a team-high two RBIs.

“It was a nice win. We played good defense, had decent pitching, and I was happy with our hitting,” said Flame manager Rick Meyer.

“Travis has had a couple of bumpy outings [recently] and he bounced back. He got his curveball over for strikes which is important for him.”

The Benders had four players with two hits apiece: Harry Steldt, E.J. Sexton, Karpinsky and Brandon Spaeth.

Ryan Baglow went the distance and was the losing pitcher. Baglow surrendered four earned runs and zero walks while striking out three.
