Panthers’ Miske advances to state meet

WAUPUN – Junior Trevor Miske will represent the Plymouth Panthers in the Division 2 state wrestling tournament after placing third at 138 pounds in the sectional meet here Saturday.

Miske punched his ticket to state with a 4-2 decision over Kewaskum’s Austin Goeden in the third-place match. Miske, 42-12, finished the tourney with a 3-2 record, including a pin and a technical fall (17-1).

Also competing for PHS were senior J.J. Seifert at 126 and senior Jake Ohman, 152, with neither of them placing. Seifert lost his firstround match to David Mcleod of Catholic Memorial (Waukesha), 8-5.

Ohman fell to Chilton/Hilbert’s Mitchell Fucile in the first round by a major decision (14-3). In the consolation semifinals, Ohman was pinned by Lomira’s Garrett Keller in 3:58 after leading the match.

“We are very proud of Trevor Miskes’ accomplishments. He wrestled extremely tough to make it through the sectional,” said Panther head coach Lucas Lechnir.

“We are excited to have him represent the Panther wrestling team this weekend down at Madison.

“Jake for sure had a fantastic season and we are very proud of how far he came over the past couple of years,” Lechnir said.

“J.J. Siefert suffered a loss during the first match of the day. J.J. really wrestled well [this season] after coming back from a seven-week-long absence due to a concussion.”

The top-three finishers at each weight class qualify for the state tourney at UW-Madison’s Kohl Center on Thursday through Saturday.

Sheboygan Falls advanced four wrestlers to state – Alex Fitzgerald at 126; Brandon Breitzmann, 152; Mitchell Lambrecht, 160; and Drew Setzer at 220.

Lomira won the sectional with 95½ points. Falls took sixth with 58½ and PHS was 19th at 13½ in the 25-team meet.
