Michigan Technological University has released the Dean's List for the 2012 fall semester. To be included, students must achieve grade point averages of 3.5 or higher. Those earning straight A averages of 4.0 are indicated by asterisks.

Among the honorees are the following from the local area:

From Plymouth: Robert Chase, Mechanical Engineering Technology. Andrew Flood, Physics*. Brenden Schulz, Mechanical Engineering Technology.

From Sheboygan: Holly Zehfus, Mathematics.

Students received degrees from the University of Wisconsin- Whitewater during the winter commencement celebration on Dec. 15, including the following local students:

Alison Probst, from Howards Grove, Wis., who graduated with a bachelor's degree in accounting

Gabriel Gonzalez, from Sheboygan, Wis., who graduated with a master's degree in business administration

Halie Brill, from Sheboygan, Wis., who graduated with a bachelor's degree in finance

Cody Gumm, from Plymouth, Wis., who graduated with a bachelor's degree in history

Dao Vang, from Sheboygan, Wis., who graduated with a bachelor's degree in human resource management

University of Wisconsin-Platteville announced its 2012 fall semester dean’s list. Included were the following local students with their majors:

Rachel O'Keefe, of Kohler, WI, a freshman, was named to the President's List and Dean's List of Mercer University's College of Liberal Arts for the fall 2012 semester. Inclusion on this list requires students to meet rigorous grade-point-average standards for the College of Liberal Arts.

Laura Fears of Sheboygan, WI was named to the Dean's List at Huntington University for the fall semester of the 2012-13 school year. Fears is a senior Worship Leadership major.

Alexis Lindstrom of Howards Grove is the recipient of a Northern Illinois University Dean's Award.

The award is given to graduating students who demonstrate significant achievement and leadership in the areas of scholarship, campus and community activities, and professional service. Criteria for the award include attainment of a 3.0 minimum grade point average and nomination by faculty based on service to the nominee's academic department or college.

Dean's Awards are conferred upon students from NIU's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, College of Health and Human Sciences and College of Visual and Performing Arts.

Students from the area who have been accepted at University of Wisconsin-Stout for fall 2013 have been awarded the Chancellors Scholarship in the amount of $4,500; $3,000 for the freshman year and $1,500 for the sophomore year.

To qualify, students must be in the top 10 percent of their graduating class, or have a 3.5 GPA for high schools that do not rank with an ACT score of at least 26, or an equivalent SAT score.

Nicholas Hemenway of Sheboygan, Wis., is a student at North High School. Hemenway plans to major in Computer Engineering.

Hannah Riesselmann of Cedar Grove, Wis., is a student at Cedar Grove Senior High School. Riesselmann plans to major in Undecided.

Northwestern College announces the following local students graduated on Friday, December 21, 2012 during ceremonies held in Maranatha Hall on Northwestern's St. Paul campus:

Kirsten Lewis, daughter of Bryan & Carolyn Lewis of Sheboygan, graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Spanish. Lewis is a 2008 graduate of North High School.

Michael Niedermeyer, son of Mary Jane Niedermeyer of Howards Grove, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Media Communication . Niedermeyer is a 2008 graduate of Sheboygan County Christian.

Kirsten Lewis, daughter of Bryan & Carolyn Lewis of Sheboygan, was named with Highest Honors to the Fall semester dean's list at Northwestern College in St. Paul, Minn. The dean's list includes fulltime students with a grade point average (GPA) during the semester of 3.65 (out of 4.0) or higher. Lewis is pursuing a degree in Elementary Education and Spanish at Northwestern.
