Next season - road construction - coming soon

DRIVERS ARE STILL STRUGGLING with winter driving hazards – snow, ice, blowing snow and all the rest.

But they’re only a month and a half or so away from Wisconsin’s other season – road construction season.

That promises to be especially busy here in Sheboygan County, according to the Department of Transportation, which is planning projects on State 23, State 32, State 42, State 57 and Interstate 43 for this summer.

The projects will impact all ends of the county, from Sheboygan to Plymouth and from Random Lake to Howards Grove.

The work will range from bridge painting to intersection improvements to road resurfacing.

Some of it will begin as soon as mid-April and some will last until November.

The one common thread is that it will impact all of us who live and drive in Sheboygan County.

Nobody likes the delays and detours that road construction causes. Nobody cares for the inconvenience and the hassle. But it’s a necessary evil of modern living.

Because nobody likes to drive on roads that are rough or falling apart. Nobody wants to drive on roads that are unsafe or hazardous. So road construction we all have to live with.

That’s something to keep in mind this summer as we drive around the county. Be cognizant of road construction and work zones, and make allowances for them in your daily driving schedule.

Road work schedules and updates are posted weekly by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and published in The Review and other local media.

More importantly, drive safely and considerately through work zones. Doing road construction can be hazardous in the midst of speeding traffic, so slow down, be aware and be considerate.

Summers around here can seem awfully short sometimes, and there are plenty of things going on to get to. But summer and things to do will still be there even if you take your time through construction zones.

We’ll all be safer for it and we will all be the beneficiaries of safer, better roads to drive on.

At issue:
Road construction starting soon
Bottom line:
Be aware, drive safe
