FREDERICK “FRITZ” BUECHEL

Frederick “Fritz” Buechel, age 88, of Elkhart Lake, passed away unexpectedly at his home late Thursday, March 7, 2013.

He was born July 19, 1924, in the town of Rhine, a son of the late Lawrence and Hulda Arndt Buechel.

Fritz was united in marriage to Valeria Schmahl on Nov. 29, 1947, at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Kiel, Wis.

He was a lifelong farmer in the town of Rhine but also did many other jobs such as logger, welder, tree trimmer, milk hauler for Hasseler Brothers Dairy and Lakeside Farms, Suhrke Implement dealer and at Kohler Co.

He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Elkhart Lake and a former member of Knights of Columbus.

He was a former member of the Elkhart Lake Lions Club and Snowmobile Club.

Fritz loved going on trips on his motorcycle, deer hunting, playing cards and reading.

His wife preceded him in death Jan. 19, 2009.

Survivors include two children, Sharon (John) Ehrhardt of Fort Atkinson, Wis. and Gail (Darryl) Anderson of Hanover Park, Ill.; one daughter-in-law, Carol Buechel-Horneck (husband, Steve); eight grandchildren: Steve Buechel of Elkhart Lake, Wis.; Brenda (Rob) Bruffett of Milwaukee, Wis.; Tracy Braatz (special friend, Ben Katsma) of Sheboygan, Wis.; Michael (Josie) Ehrhardt of Ramsey, Minn.; Tom (Angie) Buechel of Elkhart Lake; Jim (Teri) Buechel of Elkhart Lake; Nicholas Anderson of Hanover Park and Ariana Anderson of Hanover Park; 11 great-grandchildren: Megan and Kathryn Bruffett, Leyton and Alexis Ehrhardt, Hannah and Derek Braatz, Madeline, Tony and Elizabeth Buechel and Emily and Allison Buechel; one sister, Rachael (Richard) Hellmer; three sisters-in-law: Joannie Buechel, Priscilla Grossheim and Joyce (Robert) Feldmann; and one brotherin law, Leroy (Sharon) Schmahl.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and one son, Dennis Buechel; and many brothers, sisters, and in-laws.

Prayer service was held Sunday afternoon, March 10, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Elkhart Lake. Father Dan Volkert, pastor of the church, officiated. Burial was in St. Thomas Aquinas North Cemetery in the town of Rhine.

A memorial fund is being established in Fritz’s name.
