Invasive species

I want to make you aware of the opportunities available to you to become involved with the control of invasive species as well as several UW-Extension classes designed to teach invasive plant identification and control measures.

The UW-Extension class is available on either April 16th or April 30th 6:30-8:00PM. Registration is free by calling 920 459 6644 or emailing: deb.beyer@ ces.uwex.edu or akretlow@uwm.edu

Volunteer Opportunities:

Clean Boats/Clean Wa- ters: Volunteers man the boat landings and survey boaters on how to stop the spread of invasive species from lake to lake. 15-20 hours for the summer. Training and T-shirt provided. A great program for families, students and individuals that are interested in saving our lakes.

County Ground Army: These volunteers have an interest in learning about invasive species and we actually get dirty with on-the-ground control work. No experience needed; just a desire to ‘take out’ those nasty plants. Work-days occur through-out the year with April 20th our next job being lined up in the Town of Wilson. All we need is a name and contact information. We’ll call you!

River Monitoring: We need ‘paddlers’ to do some monitoring of invasive species as well as some potential ‘gps’ survey work on our local rivers. Training and forms are provided. This work can be done during any of your floats.

To become involved with any of these very important programs contact: steve.klock@sheboygancounty.com 920 946 5921.
