Penney’s shirt in Packers Hall of Fame

A sweatshirt purchased in 1967 at the Plymouth J.C. Penney's has been put on display at the Packers Hall of Fame. The shirt was donated to the hall of fame by Kevin Eggebeen, who was 11 years-old when the Packers won the first super bowl and his mother purchased the shirt. The shirt is remarkable in that it may be the first piece of football memorbilia to be graced with the words "Super Bowl." The championship game was not officially recognized as the "Super Bowl" until some years later. Several years ago Eggebeen had a chance encounter with the grandson of the designer of the shirt and after some discussion the two agreed to donate the shirt which was then authenticated and hung. Also on display is an origional advertisment for the garment and a write up of the history of shirt.
