Cecka sets meet, PHS records in high jump at Manty

MANITOWOC – Plymouth senior Rachael Cecka continued her outstanding season in the high jump at Friday’s Manitowoc Lincoln Invitational girls indoor track meet.

Cecka set meet and school records with an impressive 5-7, and earned the Athlete of the Meet award. She broke her own PHS record of 5-5, set a week earlier in the Sheboygan North Invitational.

Sophomore Julia Novotny was the Panthers’ other winner as she captured the 1,600-meter run with a time of 15 minutes, 47.33.

The Panthers finished eighth in the 16-team meet with 45 points. Appleton North took first with 112. Sheboygan Falls placed fourth at 58.

PHS competed in the Manitowoc Lincoln Invitational boys indoor meet Saturday. Senior Eric Roberts led the Panthers with a first place in the pole vault at 12-6.

The Panthers were 13th with 20 points. Germantown won the 15-team meet with 119 – a whopping 56 points ahead of runner-up Appleton East (63). Falls placed ninth at 36.

“Our girls competed well. We had great meets from our jumpers, as Rachael won the high jump and Elizabeth [Raeder] placed second in the pole vault,” said Panther head coach Jay Grosshuesch.

“Julia continued to run well in the early-season meets with a win the 1,600 and Megan Holec ran a solid early-season 800.
