St. Lawrence raises $2,200 for Pennies for Patients

St. Lawrence Seminary High School is pleased to announce that over $2,000 was raised to benefit the “Pennies for Patients” project, a part of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

During the third quarter of the academic calendar, the St. Lawrence Seminary High School student council selected Pennies for Patients as a project that would offer a greater impact beyond the small high school campus and raise funds for a cause that would serve a large amount of people in need.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is dedicated towards raising funds that not only help support children and teenagers with Leukemia and Lymphoma, but also that help in finding potential cures for the diseases.

Overall, the entire campaign raised $2,202.50, an amazing average of roughly $12.50 per student.

Organized by the Student Council along with the assistance of their advisors, Mr. Chad Dowland and Mrs. Margie Buelow, various fundraising tactics were used through the seven week campaign.

Donation boxes were placed in each dormitory along with major offices and areas of the campus. Also, fun ‘dress down’ days were used where students were able to wear jeans or sports jerseys during the school day if they donated an extra $1. Also, a ‘Faculty/Staff Baby Picture’ contest was held where pictures of faculty and staff members were posted and students had the opportunity to guess “Who’s Who”. Students donated 50 cents to see how many staff members they can recognize, and a $20 prize was given to the student who correctly identified the most faculty/staff members.

St. Lawrence Seminary High School is a private, Catholic, seven-day residential school for young men, founded in 1860 by Capuchin Franciscans. It is a community of nearly 200 students from all across the world that exists to promote, foster, and live principles proclaimed in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and articulated in the Roman Catholic Church. It is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.
