Darlyene F. “Dar” (Borgen) Bedker, age 85, of Plymouth, went to her heavenly home Thursday, March 28, 2013.

She was the eldest child and only daughter of Theodore and Rosella (Helbach) Borgen, born Aug. 13, 1927. She graduated in 1945 from Garfield Senior High School in Fond du Lac.

On Nov. 15, 1947, Dar married Kenneth Bedker in a private ceremony in Menomonee, Mich. Mark Jay Bedker, the first of their two children, was born in 1962. Five years later, they welcomed home daughter Joy Ann. The family lived primarily in Madison, Wis., until 10 years ago when Dar and Ken moved to Plymouth.

Dar worked for many years as a bookkeeper for several companies including Benson Pump Co., Master Feed and Seed Co. and Badger Feed Co. Dar and Ken opened their own business, BC Feed Company, located in Madison in 1960 where Dar maintained the books for 35 years.

In the 1980s Dar worked as a poll worker and helped to introduce computer polling in the town of Burke. She was elected clerk/ treasurer for the town of Burke in Dane County in 1989.

Dar grew up at Immanuel Trinity Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac where she was baptized and confirmed. A lifelong committed Christian, Dar served several Lutheran churches as a librarian, Sunday school and Vacation Bible school teacher, president of the Ladies Guild, a member of Church and Youth councils, and treasurer of the Lutheran Women’s League of Wisconsin.

She had many hobbies including bowling, playing cards, 4-H, ceramics and scrapbooking. The family genealogist, Dar enjoyed researching the Borgen and Bedker families and created comprehensive family histories.

Dar was extremely devoted to Ken and was a selfless, loving mother to Mark, of De Forest, and Joy, of Windsor. Grandchildren Tony, Raeane and Matthew held a special place in her heart and their latest accomplishments were frequent topics of telephone conversations and the subjects of emails. She is survived by them all.

She is further survived by brothers, Ted Borgen, Dale (Diane) Borgen and Tom (Mary) Borgen and sisters-in-law, Lee Merrill, Beverly Bedker and lifelong friend, Jeannette Puls. She was a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Dar was preceded in death by her parents; half brother, Merwyn Schutz; sistersin law, Erica Borgen, Mary Ann Borgen, Lois Bedker, Ruth Wimmer Edith Bedker and Henrietta Schutz; and brothers-in-law, Robert, Miles and John Bedker.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 2, at Grace Lutheran Church in Elkhart Lake, Wis., from 10-11 a.m. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. and there will be a private interment at Estabrook Cemetery in Fond du Lac later this spring.

Schneider Funeral Home & Life Tributes of Plymouth has been given the privilege of serving the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the wishes of the family.
