O. William “Bill” Vorpagel, age 88, died Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Sunny Ridge Health Care in Sheboygan.

He was born in Plymouth on Sept. 2, 1924, to the late George and Ella (Harmel) Vorpagel.

He attended Plymouth schools, went on to Mission House College, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin where he earned a degree in marketing.

He heard the call of his country and joined the United States Navy serving from 1943 to 1946 as a pharmacist mate.

He married Christine Christy on Oct. 7, 1960 in Wichita, Kan. The couple made their home in Northfield, Ill. He later moved to Milwaukee, where he retired as a city assessor.

Bill made friends wherever he went and always had a smile for those he met. Chivalry was alive and well; wherever Bill was, he was quick to hold the door for the ladies.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A time of remembrance will be held Monday, April 8, from 10-11 a.m. at the Schneider Funeral Home, 123 South St., Plymouth, with burial to follow in the Plymouth Woodlawn Cemetery.

Online condolences may be sent through www.schneiderlifetributes.com.

A special thank you is extended to the staff of Sunny Ridge, Michele Ellesson and Dr. Hancock for the compassionate care they all gave to Bill.
