“Our outlook looks great. We have great balance and depth in all positions,” said Feldmann who takes over for Keith Knepfel.

“I’m excited about our team and the opportunity to coach.”

Feldmann, who played high school baseball at Elkhart and American Legion baseball for 12 years in St. Cloud, previously coached softball for two years in Elkhart’s grades 7-8 summer fastpitch program.

The Resorters return five starters, all letter winners, as they hope to improve on a disappointing 2012 season in which they finished 0-12 in the Central Lakeshore Conference (1-15 overall). The returning starters are senior catcher-infielder Emily Grunewald, senior infielderoutfielder Charity Rodriguez, senior infielder Jordan Shaw, junior pitcher-infielder Aryanna Klemme and infielder Miranda Sippel.

Sippel was named to the All- CLC second team and Grunewald and Shaw were honorable mention last year.

“We have three seniors that we will lean on – two [Rodriguez and Grunewald] who are four-year starters. I’m looking for some great things from Aryanna and Miranda,” Feldmann said.

Feldmann pointed out the team’s strengths.

“We have depth and experience in key positions,” he said.

“We’re looking good at pitching with Aryanna and freshman Rachael Flora. This is a strong, fast group. We’re looking for good things.”

Klemme split pitching duties last season with Paige Steffes who graduated.

The coach said the concern is getting the underclassmen up to the speed of the varsity game.

“We have an athletic freshman group and strong overall underclassmen,” he observed.

“Just like any sport, we need to stay healthy and focused,” Feldmann pointed out.

He said other keys to having success this season are consistency and playing mistake-free softball.

Feldmann’s top goals are to win the conference championship and make a deep run in the playoffs. Last season, the Resorters lost to Sevastopol in the Division 4 reby gional semifinals after receiving a first-round bye.

Feldmann didn’t want to assess the conference competition because he isn’t very familiar with the other teams yet. Howards Grove is the two-time defending champion.
