JEROME WILLIAM SKELTON

Jerome William Skelton, age 87, of Plymouth, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Rocky Knoll Health Care Center in Plymouth.

He was born July 18, 1925, in Cascade, son of the late Henry and Catherine (Doherty) Skelton. He attended grade school and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1943.

Upon his graduation, Jerome heard the call of his country and joined the United States Navy serving in the South Pacific from July of 1943 to May of 1946. In 2011 he had the privilege of joining the men and women he served with, on an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.

After returning home, he married Mildred Spradau on Sept. 13, 1947, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Cascade. She preceded him in death in January 2005.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Cascade where he served as an altar boy and usher. He was a current member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth where he served as an usher and was a member of the Catholic Knights.

Jerome was a member of the Worlds Cheese Center VFW Post #5612, the Cascade Baseball League, and the 25 Year Club at Bordens.

In his free time, he volunteered for St. Vincent De Paul in Plymouth.

Throughout his working career, he found himself working for the Adell Foundry, Kohler Co. Brass, Milwaukee Railroad, Plymouth Foundry, and for 31 years he worked maintenance at Bordens.

He is survived by his two children, Sherry (Julian) Romero of Pueblo, Colo., and Michael (Tammy) Skelton of Sheboygan; two grandchildren, Jason (Charlene) Romero and Sara (Brandon) Terrill; three great-grandchildren, Jason Jesse, Manuel and Larissa Romero; a sister-in-law, Beverly Skelton; a special friend, Dennis Steiner; and numerous special friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mildred; a brother, John and a sister, Mary.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday morning, April 8, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth with Father Dan Volkert officiating. Burial followed in the parish cemetery.

The Worlds Cheese Center VFW Post #5612 conducted military rights at the cemetery Monday.
