Plymouth Utilities truck bids come in under budget

PLYMOUTH – Bids on five new pickup trucks for Plymouth Utilities came in more than 20 percent below the budgeted amount.

The City Council unanimously accepted the bids from Mike Burkart Ford.

“That’s good pricing for the city,” City Administrator Brian Yerges told the council.

The city had budgeted $133,000 for the trucks in the 2012 and 2013 capital improvement budget for Plymouth Utilities.

Burkart was the low bidder on each of the five different trucks among three local dealerships.

The total of the five bids was just over $92,000, but Yerges said Burkart was offering an additional volume discount of $3,456 if all five were purchased from the dealership.

That brought the total price to just below $89,000. “We should take advantage of the additional discount,”

Yerges advised the council.

The council approved an early retirement agreement with Plymouth Utilities Manager John MacKinnon. No details of the agreement were disclosed.

MacKinnon announced his retirement, effective Oct. 1, late last month. He has been with Plymouth Utilities since 1982.

Director of Public Works William Immich announced that the City Garage on Commerce Street will be opening for yard waste drop off on Saturdays beginning April 20.

Hours for Saturday drop off will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Immich said. Saturday drop off will run through the Saturday before Thanksgiving (Nov. 23), he added.

The council voted to deny a claim of excessive assessment filed by Agree Limited Partnership, owners of the Plymouth Commons shopping center, following a closed meeting discussion.

Library Director Martha Rosche detailed plans for celebration of National Library Week April 14-20 at the Plymouth Public Library.
