Hortense Jean Bergin, age 88, of Elkhart Lake, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at her home.

She was born Sept. 14, 1924, in the town of Rhine, daughter of the late DeLyle and Margaret (Schultz) Miller. She attended grade school and graduated from Elkhart Lake High School.

On Dec. 15, 1942, she married Henry Bergin in Plymouth. He preceded her in death in 1992.

Hortense was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Plymouth where she was a member of the Willing Workers, was the past president of the Naomi’s Circle, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday school.

During her working years, she was employed at the Lakeshire Marty Co. in Plymouth.

In her free time she enjoyed collecting cookbooks, baking wedding and birthday cakes, collecting teddy bears, and spoiling her grandchildren.

She is survived by her two sons, Steven (Susan) Bergin of Stevens Point and Bradley Bergin of Madison; five grandchildren: Ashley

(Corey Schapiro) Bergin, Seth Bergin, Ethan Bergin, Megan and Kala Bergin; a great-granddaughter, Helena Vivienne Schapiro; a brother, James Miller and a sister, Janet Lammers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry; a sister, Virginia Schmidt; a brother-in-law, Howard Schmidt and a sister-in-law, Henrietta Miller.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, April 13, at Salem United Church of Christ in Plymouth with the Rev. James Hoppert officiating. Private entombment will follow in the Garden of Peace Mausoleum in the town of Sheboygan.

Friends may call Saturday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

A memorial fund has been established in the name of Hortense Bergin for the Salem United Church of Christ radio broadcasts.
