Tigers compete well in EWC debut

KOHLER – The Howards Grove Tigers lost to Kohler, 6-1, in Tuesday afternoon’s boys tennis dual but their head coach Elizabeth Hill was encouraged with the team’s play.

The meet was the Tigers’ Eastern Wisconsin Conference opener. Kohler is expected to be a contender for the EWC title.

“I was very impressed with our play today. The kids played hard,” said Hill.

“Cody [Stange] did an excellent job getting our only win for the day but Luke Stanczyk, A.J. Klemme, Dan Sohn, Trent Benninghaus and Travis Stanczyk competed well.”

Stange defeated John Tengowski 7-6 (7-5 tiebreaker), 6-4 in the No. 1 singles match. Luke Stanczyk competed at No. 2 singles; and in doubles, Klemme and Sohn were at No. 2, and Benninghaus and Travis Stanczyk played at No. 3.
