Tigers finish second in CLC triangular

OOSTBURG – The Howards Grove Tigers kicked off their outdoor track season with a good showing in Central Lakeshore Conference quadrangular action here Tuesday.

Senior Cassie Marver was a double-winner to lead the Tigers in the girls meet. Marver captured the 400- and 800-meter races. Howards placed second with 57 points – only two behind Cedar Grove-Belgium (59). Kohler and Oostburg finished third and fourth, respectively, with 55 and 40.

Senior Donald Oneson paced the Tiger boys as he won the long jump, was second in the 100 dash, third in the 200 and anchored the winning 400 relay.

Oostburg edged Howards, 73-70, to win the boys meet. Cedar Grove took third at 54, followed by Kohler, 47.

“Our teams did great in Oostburg. It was nice to get out and see what our team is made of,” said Tiger head coach Tyler Biederwolf.

“Both new athletes and returning varsity athletes showed great poten- tial for this season.

“Our throwers have really progressed in the last few years and are now showing what they have. Our distance [runners] has been working really hard to stay ahead of the weather and put out some great times.

“After seeing our sprinters, it was obvious that we have a great deal of depth and a good outlook for not only this year but also the years to come,” Biederwolf added.
