The Panthers ran their Eastern Wisconsin Conference record to 2-0 (4-0 overall).

“My team did well. Our doubles teams didn’t struggle very much. They are working on communication as well as position and it showed today,” said Panther head coach Chuck Salibi.

The Panthers’ winners in singles action were Nick Eggert at No. 1; Cooper Ebbott, No. 2; and Inigo Acedo-Fernandez, No. 3. Ebbott rallied back after dropping the first set, 3-6, to win the next two sets, 6-4, 6-1, over Aaron Reilly.

PHS swept the doubles matches, with Steven Blend and Matt Primozic at No. 1; Ben Bachmann and Gabe Binversie, No. 2; and Owen Henriksen and Austin Wiese, No. 3.

“The singles matches were hard-fought. Nick had to dig deep but closed it up at the end to finish in two sets. Inigo had a challenging match all-around that kept him on his toes,” Salibi said.

“Though Adam [Hernandez, No. 4 singles] lost, he fought hard and worked at his game as well.

“The big comeback was from Cooper who lost the first set and was down 0-3 in the second. Cooper is a very mentally tough player and it showed here. He didn’t give up, made adjustments in his game and turned the tables on Aaron,” added the coach.
