Panthers go undefeated in County Invite

Each team in the tournament played three games and a champion wasn’t determined. The Howards Grove Tigers were 0-3 on the day.

“We played three strong games. Rachel Romps threw very well – allowing only one earned run in 19 innings with one walk and 32 strikeouts,” said Panther head coach Gale Grahn.

“Sara Thompson and Mikaela Holdridge really hit well.”

Romps was 3-0 in the tourney as the Panthers improved to 9-1 on the season and ran their winning streak to eight.

PHS routed Sheboygan South, 10-0, in its first game. Romps fired a shutout – her sixth of the season. Joa Cain led PHS in hits with three and Thompson collected two. Thompson, Brianna Sippel and Marissa Grapentine had a teamhigh two RBIs each.

In game two, the Panthers edged tourney host Sheboygan North, 4-2. Holdridge’s two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth gave PHS a 3-2 lead. Holdridge was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Sara Romps cracked two hits to key the PHS attack.

Rachel Romps and Erica Helmer combined on a three-hit shutout in a 6-0 win over the Tigers. Romps fanned 13 batters in the first six innings and Helmer pitched the seventh.

Thompson and Sara Romps ignited the PHS offense with three hits each. Sara Romps had a teamhigh two RBIs. Valerie Free led Howards with two hits.

The Tigers lost to North, 16-0, and Cedar Grove-Belgium, 9-4. Amber Reinemann and Katie Sohn paced Howards in hits versus Cedar Grove with two each. Reine- mann also had a team-high two RBIs against Cedar Grove.

The Tigers had no batters with multiple hits versus North.
