United Way leaders say thank you

To the Editor:

It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as the United Way of Sheboygan County 2012 Campaign Co-chairs. Working together, we raised a total of $2,613,845, exceeding our goal of $2.5 million. This is the most money ever raised by the United Way of Sheboygan County! It was a very gratifying and heartwarming experience, and we had the opportunity to witness first-hand the tremendous generosity of the residents of Sheboygan County.

Early on in the campaign, people would occasionally ask us why we took on the responsibility of becoming the United Way campaign co-chairs. The answer is, like you, we wanted to help make a difference. The United Way supported agencies and the services they provide play a key role in making this community a great place to live, work, and raise a family, and they can’t do their vitally important work without resources. They provide shelter, medical assistance, feed the hungry, and offer services that help the neediest of the needy get back on their feet.

We had the opportunity to visit many of the United Way supported agencies and personally observe the tremendous services that they provide on behalf of the community. Touring these various agencies was a humbling, enlightening, eye-opening, and overall sobering experience. Sheboygan County is so fortunate to have such compassionate, dedicated people working in these areas – they are truly unsung heroes that save and enrich lives.

It was also heartwarming to witness the efforts of so many individuals and companies all sharing the same goal of making the campaign successful. Year after year, companies and individual donors step up throughout Sheboygan County and give so generously to the campaign. Your leadership, generosity and every dollar contributed is greatly appreciated and important.

Thanks also to the many campaign coordinators working within each of the various companies for putting forth their absolute best effort to make their company campaign as successful as possible. Thank you to our 2012 Campaign Cabinet for your impressive leadership, hard work and commitment to achieve our goal, as well as the numerous volunteers who work with the cabinet to make the campaign successful.

We were all surprised and saddened by the loss of dearly departed Bill Weissert. To his credit, Bill surrounded himself with talent. We want to thank the entire United Way staff for stepping up and assuming considerably more responsibility. Special thanks to Interim Executive Director Ann Wondergem, Nancy Jusky and Rick Reiss for their outstanding leadership and support.

In summary, we should all be very proud to be part of this incredibly generous and caring community. Thank you for all that you have done and continue to do as part of the United Way of Sheboygan County family. Working Together, We Make a Difference.
