PHS wins consolation title

WEST BEND – The Plymouth Panthers won the West Bend Girls Soccer Classic consolation championship Saturday with a 3-1 victory over Ashwaubenon.

Scoring one goal each for PHS were Becca Ebbott, Sigrun Adalgeirsdottir (direct kick) and Erin Falk. Adalgeirsdottir and Falk had one assist each.

Panther goalkeeper Sophie Hau made two saves. PHS, 10-3-2 this season, led 8-3 in shots on goal.

PHS lost to West Bend West in the first round, 1-0, which put the Panthers into the consolation bracket. In the semifinals, PHS defeated Port Washington, 3-0, to advance to the title match.

“I was pleased with how we bounced back after the 1-0 loss and took control in both games against Ashwaubenon and Port Washington,” said Panther head coach Brad Feick.

“We did a much better job going to the ball and passing with purpose in the two games that we won.

“We got a lot of good play from many different players.

Anna Travis, Rikke Damgaard and Emily Meinnert stepped in smoothly as midfielders,” Feick said.

“Elle Klecka was really aggressive on the outside. Sophie Hau delivered another strong performance in goal.”

In the Port Washington match, Ebbott, Adalgeirsdottir and Breinne Cain kicked one goal apiece. Klecka and Emily Schirmer had one assist each.

Friday, the visiting Panthers fell to West Bend East, 2-1, in a nonconference game.

Ebbott gave PHS a 1-0 lead only four minutes into the match, assisted by Adalgeirsdottir.

The Suns tied the score, 1-1, at halftime on Kayla Furlano’s goal. Corrine Springer kicked the game-winner in the 65th minute.

PHS goalies Hau and Kathryn Aukerman combined for four saves.
