Miscues hurt Tigers in regional loss

New Holstein, a No. 2 seed, advances to the finals Thursday, May 23 at No. 1-seeded Chilton. The No. 3-seeded Tigers ended their season with a 13-10 record.

The Huskies scored five unearned runs as they grabbed a 5-0 lead after three innings – capitalizing on two Tiger errors. Kelsey Kaiser’s two-out RBI triple, followed by Emily Casper’s RBI double in the third gave New Holstein a 5-0 advantage.

The Tigers tallied three runs in the fourth to pull within 5-3. Lindsay Krell had a run-scoring walk, Amanda Bergman hit a sacrifice fly and the final run scored on a passed ball.

New Holstein answered with two runs each in the fifth and sixth – all with two outs – to build a 9-4 cushion.

Amber Reinemann and Lyndsay Peterson led Howards in hits with two each. Bergman was 1-for-2 with a double and a team-high two RBIs.

Kaiser, Shannon Diederichs and Tristen Guelig paced the Huskies’ bats with two hits each. Diederichs led in RBIs with two.

The winning pitcher was Kaiser who gave up three runs (two earned) on six hits with three walks and one strikeout in four innings. Guelig earned a save – allowing one earned run on four hits with no walks and strikeouts in three frames.

Katie Sohn was the losing hurler as she went the distance. Sohn surrendered four earned runs on 10 hits with four walks and zero strikeouts.
