Meeting Minutes

The meeting of the Auxiliary of the Haslee-Doebert-Schmidt Unit 261 American Legion was called to order by President Kathy Bardon at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at the Greenbush Legion Hall.

A prayer was read by Chaplain Lorraine Gaffney. A moment of silence was observed for our deceased members.

Twelve senior members answered roll call.

Secretary’s minutes were read and approved. Treasurer’s report was filed for audit.

Liz Quackenboss and Becky Dippel will audit the books.

The auxiliary wants to thank all members who helped in any way at our Brat Fry & Chicken Roast on May 5. It was a success. Thanks to Becky and Randy Dippel for help with the raffle.

Winners of the raffle were Amanda Wilterdink, Karen Megar, Alice Johnson, Tom Hueppchen, Carl Pfeiffer, Trevor Pieper, Patrick Gossage, Sheala Wagner and Bob Liebe.

The units of the 2nd District are No. 3 in state membership.

May is Poppy Month. The auxiliary will have poppy cans available at area businesses. One hundred percent of the proceeds are donated to the VA for rehabilitation.

There will be a Memorial Day program held at the Greenbush Cemetery on May 27. Time is 10:30 a.m. Karen Degner of Plymouth Military Connect will be the main speaker.

The Fredonia American Legion will have a Luminary Lighting to honor our veterans.

Motion was made by Quackenboss and seconded by Bernie Strong to send a donation in honor of the deceased members of Post #261.

Our Badger Girls this year are Emily Wusthopp and Shawna Weber. They will attend Badger Girls State at University of Wisconsin- Oshkosh in June where they will learn about government on all levels – local, state and national.

The State Convention will be in Milwaukee July 19-21 at the Marriott West. Anyone wishing to attend, contact Kathy Bardon.

On May 18 from 10-11 a.m., members collected aluminum cans at the Legion Hall. Proceeds will go the Wisconsin Burn Camp.

Delores Miller purchased the flowers for the deceased members’ graves.

Quackenboss reported on the Sunshine Fund.

Motion was made by Mary Cary and seconded by Miller to buy two sets of books for the Bookworm project.

Kay Keyes won the door prize.

May 15 would be the Flag Retirement at the Greenbush Legion Hall.

A delicious lunch was served by Miller.

Quackenboss will be the hostess for the June 13 meeting.

Motion was made by Keyes and seconded by Joan VanderSande to adjourn. Motion carried.

Members will continue to save pop-top tabs and aluminum cans, food for the Food Pantry, coupons from the Sunday paper, Stove Fund and the Sunshine Fund.
