The PHS girls and boys teams combined to automatically qualify five events for the state meet. The first three finishers in each sectional event automatically earn state berths along with the top eight performers among competitors from all sectionals.

Cecka posted a 5-5 leap and Bolich had a season-best time of 11 minutes, 28.16 seconds.

The Panthers’ other state qualifiers, each in boys competition, are senior Jordan Mueller in the discus with a third-place finish at a career-best 155-3; senior Eric Roberts, pole vault, third, tying a personal record with 13-9; and senior Dylan Tripoli in the triple jump, placing third with a careerbest 41-4ΒΌ.

“We had a great day at the sectional. Both our teams competed very well,” said Panther head coach Jay Grosshuesch.

The PHS girls scored 51 points and the Panther boys placed sixth with 47. West Bend West won the girls meet with 167 and Fond du Lac was the boys champion at 102.

“A fourth- and sixth-place finish is an indication of the strong efforts of our athletes. We are proud of all our athletes’ efforts at sectionals.

“Obviously our state qualifiers did well but what makes us most proud is how hard the other athletes competed when it was clear they were not going to be a state qualifier. We had numerous season and personal bests at this meet,” Grosshuesch said.

The state meet will be held Friday and Saturday at UW-La Crosse’s Memorial Stadium.
