NEW HOLSTEIN – Sheboygan Falls, led by Chris and Matt Bachmann, won Tuesday’s Division 2 boys sectional golf championship to secure a spot in the state tournament next week.

Chris, a senior, was the medalist with an even-par 72 which included a 1-under-par 35 on the front nine and a 37 on the back. Matt, a freshman, carded a 73 (37-36) to finish second. The Falcons shot an impressive 302 on the Badger Creek Golf Course.

The top-two teams and the top- three golfers from nonqualifying teams advance to state which will be held Monday and Tuesday at University Ridge in Madison. Catholic Memorial (Waukesha) also qualified for the state meet as it placed second with 316.

Senior Garrett Jahnke of the Howards Grove Tigers finished in a fiveway tie for ninth with an 80 (41-39).

“Garrett played a very solid round, especially considering the weather conditions he was playing in,” said Tiger head coach Chris Hirt.

“He was very consistent all year long and the sectional round was no exception, highlighted by his chip-in birdie on the [par-4] 16th hole. I was very pleased with his round. He made no major mistakes which allowed him to stay in contention all day long.”

The Falcons’ other low players were Matt Andrews who was in a twoway tie for fourth with a 75 and Connor Clark with an 82.
