The game was the Central Lakeshore Conference baseball opener for both teams. The Tigers improved to 1-1 overall and the Resorters dropped to 0-3.

Howards pounded out 13 hits, with five batters having two each – Zach Fritz, Austin Edge, Handel, Andrew Reinemann and Hunter Hahn.

The Tigers, who trailed 4-2 after two innings, exploded for 14 unanswered runs to bust the game open at 16-4. Howards erupted for five runs in the top of the fourth to seize an 8-4 lead. Hahn and Gabsch drilled RBI doubles and Reinemann and Edge had run-scoring singles in the frame.

Edge was the starting and winning pitcher. He allowed four runs on five hits with three walks and five strikeouts in four innings. Bryce Hoffmann closed the game out with three scoreless innings and no walks and one strikeout.

Tyler Jones led the Resorters’ attack with three hits and two RBIs. A.J. Klemme contributed two hits.

“We played an excellent game,” said Tiger head coach Mark Weber.

“Edge and Hoffmann threw extremely well. The had command of most of their pitches and had good location.

“I was very pleased with our hitting,” Weber added.

“Howards was a tough game. We started out strong, even having the lead for awhile and then our pitching started to fall apart,” said Resorter head coach Davin Hill.

“We have some pitchers that haven’t had a lot of varsity pitching experience and that game showed it. We had that one bad inning [fifth] where we couldn’t seem to get anyone out and the game kind of just fell apart at that point.”

The Resorters were hurt by five errors. The Tigers had 11 steals, led by Reinemann’s three.
