The Panthers stretched their winning streak to six and improved to 4-0 in the EWC and 6-2 overall.

PHS broke the game open with seven runs in the top of the seventh to go up 14-2. The Panthers sent 12 batters to the plate in the frame, led by Zac Cain who cracked a two-run single. Luke Hojnacki, Justin Picard, Clay Henning and Luke Held contributed one RBI single each and Matt Rhude hit a sacrifice fly.

Cain and Tyler Willeford led the Panthers’ arsenal with three hits each. Henning and Hojnacki had two apiece. The RBI leaders with two each were Hojnacki, Rhude, Held and Cain.

Willeford scored a team-high three runs.

The Falcons, who qualifed for state last year, were led on offense by Erik Klemme with two hits and Mike Raeder who had an RBI double.

Rhude went the distance to notch the win. The senior right-hander surrendered one earned run on six hits with four walks and eight strikeouts.

“Matt did a great job. He challenged the hitters. He had a lot of fastballs and curveballs with good location,” said Panther head coach Butch Cain.

“We had timely hitting up and down the lineup. We hit the ball to all fields. We played sound defense and cut down some runners with good relays.”

The losing hurler was starter Ryan Halverson who gave up seven runs (five earned) on eight hits with four walks and one strikeout in five innings. Five Falcon errors led to five unearned runs by PHS.

The PHS-Falls game Saturday was postponed because the Falcons’ field was unplayable after rainfall over night. The game has been rescheduled for this Saturday at Falls at 4 p.m.
