Donald Gene Kretsch, age 83, of Plymouth, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at the Plymouth Care Center.

He was born in Plymouth on April 21, 1930, son of the late Elmer and Louise (Wessel) Kretsch. He attended Plymouth grade schools and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1949.

On Nov. 17, 1951, he married Evelyn De Smidt at Salem United Church of Christ in Plymouth.

Donald heard the call of his country and joined the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean War, from 1951-55.

He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Plymouth, The World Cheese Center Post VFW Post #5612 of Plymouth, the Ladewig-Zinkgraf American Legion Post #243 of Plymouth, the Quit Qui Oc Men’s Club and League, and the Barbershoppers.

Throughout his working career, Donald managed the Burkhardt Bowling Alley and the bar and bowling alleys at The American Club, worked plant security at the Kohler Co., and worked for Plyco of Elkhart Lake.

He is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn of Plymouth; two children, Jay (Sally) Kretsch of Madison and Kay (Dan) Underwood of Nashville, Tenn.; a grandson, Kyle; a granddaughter, Kaley; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Kretsch, Emily Buhk, Gladys Debbink and Eunice De Smidt; brother-in-law, Allen De Smidt; and a special nephew, Robert (Linda) Kretsch. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, June 8, at Salem United Church of Christ in Plymouth with the Rev. James Hoppert officiating. Burial of Donald’s cremains will take place in the Plymouth Woodlawn Cemetery.

Friends may call on Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

A memorial fund has been established in the name of Donald G. Kretsch.
