PHS principal named to state council

DAN MELLA DAN MELLA Plymouth High School Principal Dan Mella has been named to the state Council on Workforce Investment, an advisory panel that will help guide efforts to advance Gov. Scott Walker’s agenda to prepare workers to find jobs in the modern workforce.

Mella will become Plymouth School District assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction July 1.

The council oversees coordination of workforce development activities under the federal Workforce Investment Act, which includes the annual allocation of federal workforce development funding. Other duties include the review of plans submitted by Wisconsin’s 11 autonomous workforce investment boards and development of metrics to assess the effectiveness of workforce development activities in Wisconsin.

Gov. Walker has charged this council with developing Wisconsin’s workforce and advance solutions providing employers with skilled workers who are prepared to fill openings now and in the years to come.

Others on the council include state legislators, local elected offi- cials and representatives from youth organizations, organized labor and community-based organizations.

Mella helped oversee creation of the LTC-Plymouth Science & Technology Center at Plymouth High School, a unique partnership involving Lakeshore Technical College, the Plymouth School District, the City of Plymouth and area businesses. The state-of-the-art facility is used by PHS students during school hours, and by LTC students in the evenings to train students in engineering and technical fields.
