Panthers rally for win at Fox Cities Stadium

GRAND CHUTE – Plymouth rallied from a 4-0 deficit to defeat Slinger, 9-6, Sunday afternoon at Fox Cities Stadium, home of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers minorleague baseball team.

The PHS-Slinger game followed the Timber Rattlers’ win over Peoria earlier in the day.

“It’s a beautiful ballpark and our guys loved the opportunity to play there,” said Panther head coach Butch Cain whose team improved to 7-2.

“I’d like to thank the Timber Rattlers, our booster club and the families for all of their support.”

The Panthers exploded for five runs in the top of the third inning to take a 5-4 lead. The key hits in the frame were RBI singles from Luke Held and Clay Henning. Tyler Willeford and Ryan Schieble contributed one RBI apiece.

Jake Richards and Held led PHS at the plate with two hits each. Held and Willeford had a team-high two RBIs apiece. Zac Cain scored a team-best three runs.

The Panthers swiped seven bases in seven tries, led by Willeford and Cain with two each.

Schieble and Cain pitched well in relief – combining to allow two runs (both unearned) on five hits with six strikeouts and two walks in 6 innings. Schieble got the win and Cain, a save.

Owl pitching allowed a whopping 14 walks.

“Cain and Schieble mixed their pitches and kept them off balance, and had good control,” coach Cain noted.

“We had good discipline at the plate and good situational hitting.”
