Mural festival receives funding boost

A Joint Effort Marketing (JEM) Grant in the total of $29,083 was awarded to the upcoming Plymouth Mural and Arts Festival by State Tourism Secretary Stephanie Klett. The upcoming festival, which will be held June 28-30, will showcase the city’s 25 murals, including the 21 murals painted in 2011 during the 4 day Walldogs event. Organizers are expecting to attract 4,500 day and overnight visitors and generate an economic impact of $390,000 throughout the weekend. Also included in the weekend festivities will be a dedication ceremony for the city’s 25th mural, live music, strolling entertainers, children’s activities, 7-foot-long murals to color and an ice cream social. The festival coincides with the fifth annual juried Festival of Fine Arts at the Plymouth Arts Center on Saturday.
