Six-run fifth sparks Tigers past Random

RANDOM LAKE – The Howards Grove Tigers, keyed by a six-run explosion in the top of the fifth inning, rallied for a 10-4 Central Lakeshore Conference baseball win over Random Lake here Wednesday night.

Derek Handel powered the Tigers’ attack with four RBIs to go with two doubles. Derek Gabsch and Andrew Reinemann contributed two RBIs each.

Alex Strege and Terry Fritsch had two hits each for the Tigers. Austin Edge scored a team-high three runs, followed by Strege and Reinemann with two each. Reinemann ripped a double for Howards’ other extra-base hit.

Brandon Depies led the Rams in RBIs with two.

Sophomore Zach Fritz went the distance to notch the victory. Fritz allowed four earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and only two walks.

The losing hurler was Jaylen Weyker who gave up nine runs (seven earned) on seven hits with four walks and two whiffs in two frames.
