4-H news

The Plymouth Shamrocks 4-H Club has been busy this 4-H year. Club members have helped at the Camo Quilt Project for soldiers. This is a wonderful community service opportunity for clubs and individuals. The project is in need of volunteers that can help sew, iron, cut fabric and make cards for soldiers. Please contact Linda Wieck at Linda Wieck (920) 627-3460 e-mail: linda.camoquilt@gmail.com for more information. Anyone can help with this service opportunity.

The Plymouth Shamrocks had a mini lock-in for elementary students k-5. The lock-in was a huge success. Several items were once again left at the end of the evening including a jacket, mouse hat, a shoe, swim suit, and shorts. Please call the high school and ask for the items. Next year the lock-ins will require a 52 inch height requirement for swimming unless a parent goes in the pool with their child. There were numerous children unable to stand on the shallow end and they could not swim at all. This was a difficult situation, so the height requirement will be needed for further lock-ins.

In February, Ashley Doebert presented information about a book called “A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Housseini. The book is about a boy growing up in Afghanistan. She discussed some of the customs of the people in Afghanistan. The Levsens will be presenting information on another country in May.

Members will be working on dairy promotion posters and a dairy promotion display window for the month of June. Promoting Wisconsin’s Dairy Industry is always an exciting event for the club.

Two members-Ashley Doebert and Sarah Levsen will be attending out of state 4-h trips this summer. Sarah will be going on the American Spirit trip to Washington DC and Ashley will be on the Citizenship Washington Focus trip in Washington DC. Congratulations to both of them.

Members are busy with the archery project, attending the archery shoot in April. Several members also entered the Creative Writing Contest in March. Ashley Doebert attended the Communication Arts Festival entering two photographs, a poem and a story.

In May club members will have the privilege of having two guest speakers on the subject of basket making. Those speakers will be Kathy Plahmer and Lorena McKerrow.

The Plymouth Shamrocks 4-H Club is still looking for new members. Anyone interested in joining our club should call K.Doebert at 838-4995.
