Flames’ bats torch Manitowoc

PLYMOUTH – Dusty Medved collected four hits and Joel Fabian had four RBIs to power the Plymouth Flames to a 17-5 drubbing of the Manitowoc Heat Saturday night at Loebe Field.

The nonleague victory improved the Flames’ baseball record to 11-8.

Plymouth’s Land O’ Lakes League game July 3 at home against Howards Grove was rained out. A makeup date hasn’t been announced yet. The Flames-Branch game last Friday night in Plymouth was canceled because Branch didn’t have enough players.

The Flames banged out a season high 19 hits, with 10 players in the hit column. Fabian contributed three hits, followed by Dave Stecker, David Albrecht, Derrick Boldt and Travis Christenson with two each.

Albrecht had three RBIs and Stecker, Medved and Wachter two apiece.

The Heat committed eight errors and their pitching issued six walks.

Devin Christenson upped his record to 3-1 with a complete game. He allowed four earned runs on eight hits with three walks and eight strikeouts in seven innings. The game was called after 6½ innings due to the 12-run rule.

Justin Stenzel, Scotty Seal and Al Keith paced the Heat in hits with two each. Keith had a team-high two hits.
