Late outburst keys Flames’ division win

Joel Fabian’s three-run triple climaxed the Flames’ eighth-inning surge which gave them a 12-8 lead. Paul Gloede contributed an RBI single.

The Flames upped their Northern Division record to 6-5 (12-9 overall). The Twins fell to 4-9 in league play.

The Twins built a 4-0 lead after 3½ innings, sparked by Josh Applebaum’s three-run homer in the third.

Plymouth rallied for five runs in its half of the fourth to go up 5-4. The Flames had three hits and were helped by three Twin errors and two hit batters in the frame. Three of the runs were unearned. Ryan Wachter and Michael DuCharme contributed RBI singles.

The Twins tied the game in the seventh at 8-8 on Cory McEwen’s solo homer.

The Flames exploded for 16 hits, led by Wachter, DuCharme and Paul Gloede with three each. Dave Stecker and Matt Schroeder added two apiece. Wachter and Fabian had a team-high three RBIs each.

Stecker, Wachter and Dusty Medved paced Plymouth in runs with two apiece.

“The guys really battled. Everyone contributed up and down the lineup,” said Flame playermanager Rick Meyer.

“Joel’s hit [triple] was outstanding. Joel has played very well this year.”

McEwen keyed the Twins’ attack with three hits. Applebaum had a team-high three RBIs.

Wachter picked up the win in relief. He gave up two runs (both earned) on four hits with one walk and four strikeouts in five innings.
