The learning activity was designed to introduce students to the world of culinary arts. Through the experience, students demonstrated food safety and sanitation practices, along with positive work habits, time management and teamwork skills that led to their success as a group. Students also learned about the principles of baking.

Fifty students formed teams to design and create cupcakes. Students put in extra hours after school and extra time in the early morning hours before school to prepare their culinary creations to be judged on June 4.

There were two divisions, one requiring 12 individual cupcakes of the same design and another using 12 to 24 cupcakes to create a single cake design. Winners were:

Division I (12 identical cupcakes):

First place: "Hamburger Happiness" by Cheyanne Grunow, Megan Thiel, Lilly Seifert and Julia Zahn

Second place: "Yum" by Skyler Gosse, Destiny Henschel, Maria Ryan and Lexie Shaub

Third place: "The Aquatic" by Jillian Myers and Emily Mersberger

Division II (cake):

First place (tie): "X" Marks the Spot" by Allison Horner, Carlee Olsen, Abigal Smrz and Brooklin Willoughby "Out on the Green" by Riley Josephs and Derek Schweiger

Second place: "Flower Power" by Katie Grim, Brooke Ingersoll and Jamie Schultz
