Tigers’ Mugan named to All-CLC first team

NICOLE MUGAN NICOLE MUGAN Junior midfielder Nicole Mugan of the Howards Grove Tigers was voted to the All-Central Lakeshore Conference girls soccer first team for the 2013 season by the CLC coaches.

Mugan scored two goals and contributed three assists overall for the season.

“She didn’t have real impressive stats but she is workhorse and does all the little things that it takes to win really well,” said Tiger head coach Eric Worth.

“Nicole is quiet but a great leader and will never quit on herself or her teammates.

“I was very excited for her to receive this honor because a lot of the time these types of players get overlooked. Apparently she made a great impression on all the other coaches as she does with me on a daily basis,” Worth said.

The Tigers' other All-CLC picks include senior midfielder/forward Jessica Larson, senior midfielder/ forward Payton Bramstedt and junior forward Allison Schmid on the second team and sophomore midfielder/forward Morgan Edge and freshman defender Zyta Muel- ler, honorable mention.

The Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters have three all-league players, each honorable mention in sophomore midfielder Meghan Clemens, sophomore defender Jessa Felmdann and senior goalkeeper Jenna Mehre.

Bramstedt scored seven goals and had four assists this past season. Larson had four goals and five assists.

Schmid contributed six goals and two assists. Edge tallied goals to go with five assists.

“For Monica, being only a freshman, to receive the respect of the other coaches was impressive,” said Resorter head coach Kevin Ruh.

“She scored nearly 50 percent of our goals and had assists on 50 percent of the remaining goals. We expect big things from her as she develops her game even more.

“Meghan ran our midfield. She was our stopper, going against the best from the other teams. Being only a sophomore, she went toe to toe with seniors who often were bigger and stronger,” said coach Ruh.

“Jessa was our sweeper. On any breakaways, one-on-ones she was the most physical player. Every game she ran her position exactly as it is supposed to be played.

“Again, she is only a sophomore and went against the opposing teams' best offensive players,” said the Resorter coach.

Ozaukee senior midfielder Katie Bares was voted to the first team for the fourth straight season. The following players were named to the first team for the second consecutive year: Ozaukee junior forward Natalie Clark, and Cedar Grove-Belgium seniors Hailie Scheiffer and Briana Weyker who played forward and midfield.

The unanimous first-team picks are Bares, Oostburg junior defender Maranda Huibregtse and Clark.

CLC champion Ozaukee, which also won the Division 3 state title, has a league-high three first-team players.
